Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner Residency Program

The APP residency at Wynn Medical Center is one of the first residency training program of its kind in the U.S. for Doctor of Pharmacy graduates to become licensed healthcare provider,  Advanced Pharmacist Practitioners. The program is a one-year residency program co-sponsored by 986 Pharmacy Corporation, USC, Western University, and Wynn Medical Center.

The program is structured to give the clinical pharmacist a well-rounded clinical experience as well as didactic and research opportunities.  The resident is evaluated under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) core competencies. 

Graduate from this program is eligible to seat for the California APP (Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner) license to become a midlevel healthcare provider.

Program Curriculum

In order to fulfill 1,500 clinical hours requirements to become board eligible for APP, the resident will complete 12 month rotations at Wynn Medical Center and 986 Pharmacy in Rosemead, California.

 

  • Practice-Based Learning and Improvement

  • Patient Care and Procedural Skills

  • Systems-Based Practice

  • Medical and Pharmacy Knowledge

  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • Professionalism

Rotation Schedule

  • 6 months general internal medicine (focusing on chronic diseases such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, arthritis, COPD, etc..) 

  • 3 month general outpatient pharmacy 

  • 1 month diagnostic/procedure 

  • 1 month elective 

  • 1 month research 

Admission

Interviews

Application Materials

Our interview season extends from January through March. Interviews are offered to potential candidates after review of your application and supporting materials. The number of interview slots is limited, so please submit your application materials as early as possible. Interviews last a day with several candidates scheduled at a time.

Please use the following guidelines to complete your application:

  • Application through ASHP (PhORCAS) and choose 986 Pharmacty/WMC program in Rosemead

  • Dean's letter from your pharmacy school

  • Two letters of recommendation from your professors/pharmacist/physician with whom you have worked closely with during your training.

  • A recent photograph.

  • Personal statement detailing your interest in AAP residency as your career after APP

  • Pharmacy school transcript and a copy of PharmD degree 

  • Documentation that you can live and work in the United States if not a citizen or permanent resident

Note: We prefer individuals who have graduated from pharmacy school within the past three years.

Benefits and Stipend

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency salary: 60,000 USD/year

Position Per Year: One
Vacation and Sick Leave: the residents receive fifteen (15) days of paid vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year.
Maternity or Paternity Leave: Residents are eligible for up to twelve (12) weeks unpaid leave under the Family Medical Leave Policy (FMLA).
Medical Insurance & Malpractice Liability: Basic health insurance coverage and malpractice liability.
